Company Profile
Established in 1987, the Pick-n-Pull chain of self-service auto parts stores
is one of the largest recyclers of end-of-life vehicles in the industry. Our 40 U.S. and 3 Canadian locations offer a huge a
selection of used OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts for cars, vans and
light trucks – all makes and models, foreign and domestic – all at
incredibly low prices.
We purchase used and salvage vehicles from tow companies, private parties, auto
auctions, charities and insurance companies. Each of our locations stocks
hundreds of vehicles at a time and we are constantly refreshing our inventory
with new arrivals to provide our customers with the widest selection of vehicles
and parts. As vehicles arrive, we inspect them, remove and recycle vehicle
fluids and hazardous materials and then place the vehicles on the sales floor
where customers can access them. All of our stores are environmentally friendly
and well organized with our customers' safety and convenience as our top
priorities. When you visit a Pick-n-Pull yard, you're sure to be impressed by
the layout of our vehicles placed in orderly rows and grouped by make and model.
Interested in quality parts at unbelievable prices? All you
have to do is come to one of our locations with your tools, pay a small
admission fee, find a vehicle with the parts you need and pull the parts
yourself! All of our vehicles are set on customized supports to raise them off
the ground so you can easily and safely pull your parts. The average store has
14 acres and over 1,200 cars and trucks to choose from so chances are we have
the parts you need! Pick-n-Pull is proud of the fact that we recycle more than
250,000 vehicles and service more than 4 million self-service customers each
year.
Pick-n-Pull is a subsidiary of Schnitzer Steel Industries,
Inc., a global leader in the metals recycling industry that has been in
business for over a century. Although Pick-n-Pull and Schnitzer have worked
together since 1989, Pick-n-Pull became a fully owned subsidiary of Schnitzer in
2003 as part of its Auto Parts Business unit. Being part of a Fortune 1000 company has enabled us to
grow stronger and introduce cost efficiencies into our system that have allowed
us to bring environmental and cost benefits to our customers. At the same time,
our stores have retained the regional and local focus that has made us popular
with our customers.
The Pick-n-Pull Experience
Shopping for parts at Pick-n-Pull is easy! You start by bringing your tools to
your local Pick-n-Pull store and paying a small admission fee (usually $1-$2) to
gain access to a constantly changing inventory of over 1,000 cars and trucks.
Our helpful customer service team will provide you with a map of the facility so
you can quickly find the vehicles you are interested in. They can also check
our computerized Parts Interchange System to show you alternative vehicles that
have the same exact parts you need. Once you find a vehicle with the desired
part, you use your tools to remove them. Each of our locations also provides
free use of wheelbarrows and engine hoists. When finished, you take your parts
to the cashier and pay according to our customer-friendly parts pricing system.
The benefit of our self-service model is obvious – a savings of up to
80% compared to off the shelf original equipment parts. We also have frequent
events and specials that offer even more
savings off our already incredible prices. In addition, all parts come with a
free 30 day exchange – if the part doesn't work, goes bad or is the wrong
size, you can exchange it for another part!
Helping The Environment
Our vehicle disposal process recycles everything we possibly can. Parts are
purchased by our customers as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to
purchasing from traditional parts sources. Parts that can be refurbished (i.e.
radiators, alternators, compressors) are sold for remanufacturing. Many vehicle
fluids including gasoline, oil and antifreeze are recycled. Ferrous and
nonferrous metals are recycled and sold for reprocessing in new products. All of
this reuse reduces the amount of new products that need to be manufactured, not
to mention the raw materials and energy needed to create them.
Our environmental practices are second to none and exceed all federal
guidelines. From our extensive experience, we have implemented standardized
policies and procedures at all locations for managing vehicles and disposing of
hazardous wastes. In fact, our best practices set many of the standards adopted
by local communities as guidelines for others to follow.
All of these efforts taken together protect the environment, beautify our
neighborhoods and reduce the cost of new goods by returning valuable raw
materials into production.
Pick-n-Pull In Your Community
Pick-n-Pull's dedication to the environment and to our role as a community
partner is what sets us apart from the traditional junkyard. Founded on the
principle of industry leadership, we have sought to exceed environmental
standards and to be a leader in environmental responsibility. We have worked
tirelessly to contribute to the community in a commitment to improve the
neighborhoods we are part of.
Many communities are concerned with how to dispose of the high volume of
vehicles that are taken out of service annually. Vehicles are commonly
abandoned and left to decay on streets, residential yards, fields and even
bodies of water. We believe that Pick-n-Pull offers local communities a
solution to this problem with our industry-leading approaches to recycling
vehicles in an environmentally friendly manner. We work with the community to
acquire unwanted vehicles before (and often after) they are abandoned.
Meanwhile, we utilize our standardized state-of-the-art recycling processes to
ensure that vehicle fluids and other hazardous materials are removed and
recycled safely. In several cases, the environmental standards we have
developed for our operations have been adopted as guidelines by local
communities for others to follow.
Pick-n-Pull benefits local communities in many ways, including:
- Environmental Leadership. Our dedication to the recycling
of metals and other materials used in vehicles and to the proper removal of
fluids and hazardous materials sets an example for other businesses and even
local residents.
- Financial Benefits. We hire locally and provide employee
training, job skill development, health and other benefits to our employees. We
also create revenue through sales tax and local sourcing of supplies and
services.
- Community Partnership. We work with local governments in
vehicle abatement programs and work with the public to clean up neighborhoods
with our Cash For Junk Cars program. We support local charity organizations by
working with them to develop vehicle donation programs. Pick-n-Pull also
supports local charities and family events through sponsorships and donations.
